first_imgFormer Donegal GAA star Kevin Cassidy has voiced his dismay at the current state of his own GAA club Gaoth Dobhair.Cassidy launched a venomous attack on the club’s hierarchy and said many club volunteers involved in the boardroom are responsible for destroying the club. He said the current climate of back-stabbing and politics behind closed doors has resulted in the club being left as he describes as in the ‘gutter’.Cassidy doesn’t hold back in the hard hitting column in the GAA paper – ‘The Gaelic Life’ earlier this week.Cassidy has said it’s inexcusable for a club that has so many talented players at their disposal to be performing so poorly year-on-year.Gaoth Dobhair had SIX players on the Donegal minor team that reached the All-Ireland final in 2014, and have THREE on the current Donega senior panel . Cassidy said, “As I sit here today I wonder how my club went from where it was, to where it is now. In my eyes we are one of the biggest clubs in Ulster never mind Donegal and we should be competing in Donegal year in year out.“To give you a sense of the talent at our disposal we had six players on the county minor team that got to the All-Ireland final last year.“We had five on this year’s minor panel and then you have Neil and Eamonn McGee and Odhran McNiallais on the senior panel.“When you put those players along with the rest of us we should have enough to at least to compete in any county, but for a number of reasons we haven’t been doing that.“Our senior teams have failed to get out of our group this past three years and haven’t contested as much as a semi final since 2008.“Whether we like it or not, the GAA is the most political non-political party in the country and it is those type of back-stabbing politics that destroy good clubs. “Some people in our club may not like me for saying this but our club is in the gutter at the minute and it’s time something was done about it.CASSIDY – “GAOTH DOBHAIR GAA CLUB IS IN THE ‘GUTTER’ DUE TO BACK-STABBING was last modified: October 5th, 2015 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:GAAHome-page Sportnewslast_img read more
