IS IT TRUE NOVEMBER 28, 2016

By on May 3, 2021

first_imgIS IT TRUE we are expecting the Judge to rule today on the merits of the law suit filed against the City by the FOP and EFD concerning their Employees Health Care benefits?  …we are told the ruling of the FOP and EFD employee injunction for a stay could go either way? …if  the injunction is granted by the Judge the City employee Heath Care insurance  costs will remain the same as agreed on in the 2016 employee contract?  …if this happens the City of Evansville shall face a major financial crisis beyond belief?IS IT TRUE a quiet search for a replacement of the current Chairman of the Vanderburgh County Democratic Party is presently being conducted?  …we are hearing that the current party Chairman is beginning to appoint precinct leaders that will choose the new party Chairman?  …isn’t this called “stacking the deck”?  …we hear that Mathew Newell is considering running for this position?  …  Attorney Scott Danks is being encouraged by many of the party movers and shakers to run for this position?  … Mr. Danks has outstanding organizational and fund raising skills that could quickly turn things around for the local Democratic?  … we hear if Mr. Danks want to be the next Chairman of the Vanderburgh Democratic party it’s his for the asking?IS IT TRUE  the next Vanderburgh Democratic Party Chairman will immediately be challenged to raise around $40,000 plus for past unpaid bills?  …this figure doesn’t include money needed to hire new staff and pay for future operational costs?IS IT TRUE the once proud and powerful Vanderburgh Democratic Party demise started when Mayor Jonathan Winezapfel cut a backroom political deal to defeat Mayoral candidate Rick Davis? …a couple of the same individuals involved in the Rick Davis for Mayor situation also cut another backroom political deal to insure that Mayor Winnecke would win re-election over Gail Riecken? … when Mayor Weinzapfel left office he took with him a political war chest of $750,000 and landed a high paying job as Chancellor of Ivy Tech-Evansville?  …you now have the answer why many supporters of Rick Davis and Gail Riecken shall never support or trust anyone in involved in the demised of their candidates?  …this is why the new party Chairmen must not be someone who was involved in working against Rick Davis and Gail Riecken Mayoral campaigns?IS IT TRUE City Officials are planning to established a “Special Tax District” for Downtown?  …this project is being touted as way to generate money to create new capital for Downtown Evansville without using public money? …when Government create a new source of revenue for future capital projects this is called a “TAX”? ….we are told that the “Special Tax District” money collected for Downtown capital projects will be managed by a Board of Directors?  …we wonder who will be appointed as the Director of this “Special Tax District” for Downtown?  …will it be Downtown Alliance Director Josh Armstrong (a Chamber of Commence employee) that will oversee the establishment of the “Special Tax District for Downtown”?  …if he’s selected Director of this project who will be paying his salary (Chamber of Commence or the City)?IS IT TRUE wasn’t Mr Armstrong the person that the City of Evansville hired to run a contest to select a restaurant owner to start an upscale restaurant in the vacant Rogers Jewelry building on Main Street without assuming any startup costs? …the winner of this free turnkey restaurant turned the offer down because it turned out that this project was not free at all?  …it was reported that Mr. Armstrong was paid around $30,000 of our hard earned tax money to head up this failed project?IS IT TRUE we wonder why the City of Evansville continues to pour millions of dollars into the Downtown and the Haynies Corner Art District areas and avoid doing similar for the West Franklin Street, Lincoln Avenue (Center City) and South Green River Road areas?FOOTNOTE:  Todays “READERS POLL” question is “Do you feel that the City of Evansville should continue to pour millions of our tax dollars into the Downtown and Haynies Corner area”?FacebookTwitterCopy LinkEmailSharelast_img read more

Greater Jakarta, region hit hardest by COVID-19, can’t agree on how to fight virus

By on October 19, 2020

first_imgAbout a month after Indonesia reported its first coronavirus cases and three days after President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo declared the outbreak a public health emergency requiring large-scale social restriction, the leaders of Greater Jakarta’s constituent cities have yet to agree on a single strategy to contain the pandemic.   Despite Jokowi’s declaration on Tuesday, not a single city in the country has officially imposed a large-scale social restriction, also known as PSBB. According to the Government Regulation No. 21 on PSBB, provinces and cities are required to obtain a permit from the health minister to impose the policy.  Jakarta, the epicenter of the outbreak, has already implemented PSBB measures, such as suspending office operations, shutting down schools and limiting religious gatherings, but it has yet to secure permission from the health ministry for the actions it has taken.   The President has called on regional administrations, including Jakarta, to follow existing regulations in devising an anti-COVID-19 strategy and has asked Health Minister Terawan Adi Putranto to issue a health ministerial regulation detailing the criteria for regions to be granted PSBB status. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan was the first to request PSBB status. “What we need from the central government is to grant us the status so that we can issue regulations [to address COVID-19],” Anies said in a virtual meeting with Vice President Ma’ruf Amin on Thursday. He proposed that the PSBB policy for Jakarta should also be applicable to its satellite cities – the Greater Jakarta area – since the outbreak had affected the whole region. As of Thursday, Jakarta had confirmed at least 885 coronavirus cases with 90 deaths. West Java and Banten, the provinces where Jakarta’s satellites are located, followed the capital with 223 cases (25 deaths) and 164 cases (14 deaths), respectively.   “We suggest that there should be a distinct policy for Greater Jakarta,” he said.Greater Jakarta includes South Tangerang, Tangerang municipality and Tangerang regency in Banten, as well as Depok, Bekasi municipality, Bekasi regency, Bogor municipality and Bogor regency in West Java. It covers about 30 million residents, many of whom, under normal circumstances, commute to work in the capital. Not all leaders of those cities and regencies are on the same page as Anies, however. Bogor deputy mayor Dedie Rachim said the city administration was preparing the prerequisites for PSBB and was set to hold a meeting with the Bogor Council on April 7 to reach a mutual understanding on the issue. “If we obtain a green light [at the meeting] and our working units are ready [to implement PSBB], we will propose it,” he told The Jakarta Post.He concurred with Anies, saying any attempt to fight the pandemic in the Greater Jakarta area should be coordinated with the other cities.   South Tangerang deputy mayor Benyamin Davnie said the city’s working units were currently collating data, as required by the regulation, prior to conferring with its Regional Leadership Forum (Forkopimda). “Even though a decision should be made swiftly, the study should be well prepared,” he said. Tangerang regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar said the regency was undecided and was in talks with the Banten governor and other mayors and regents in the province. Tangerang municipality, Bogor regency and Bekasi municipality have decided to go against Anies’ proposal, saying that implementing large-scale social restrictions would be financially costly and could trigger social unrest.“We encourage Jakarta to apply for a regional quarantine,” Bogor Regent Ade Yasin told the Post. The closure of access to and from Jakarta, the country’s center of business, would prevent Bogor commuters – who average 2 million on a regular day – from using public transportation.“Imposing a regional quarantine on Jakarta will help the capital handle the COVID-19 outbreak. It will also share the burden and responsibility of handling the outbreak with its satellite cities,” she said. Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah also responded coolly to Anies’ proposal, saying that such a policy depended on the capital’s financial capability. “It is a wise consideration, but we have a limited city budget. We would need assistance [funds] from the Jakarta administration because one of the requirements to implement a large-scale social restriction is to guarantee people’s basic necessities,” he said.Bekasi deputy mayor Tri Adhianto said the city administration did not have any plan to apply for PSBB status with the central government. The city, however, would cooperate if the government granted Anies’ request for a large-scale social restriction status to be implemented throughout the Greater Jakarta area. Topics :last_img read more

Powered by Firework Milton Keynes Dons F.C. or MK Dons, a team currently competing in EFL League One, obviously not a big name in English football. However, today marks a special day for the club and football fans across the country as back in 2014 on this very day, the club achieved a thrashing 4-0 victory over none other than Manchester United!Advertisement Image Courtesy: MKCITIZENOn 26th August 2014, the Red Devils traveled to Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire to face the Dons in the second round of the League Cup, who were under the management of Karl Robinson, and faced a shock defeat of four goals to none at Stadium MK.Below is the highlights from the match with the bizarre result, courtesy to the official YouTube channel of MK Dons.Advertisement Louis van Gaal’s star studded Devils, with the likes of de Gea, Shinji Kagawa, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernández were overpowered by the Dons, who back then had a future superstar in their starting 11: Dele Alli, who rose from the club’s youth system.Advertisement Dons’ overpower came in form of double braces from two strikers. Will Grigg, Northern Ireland international netted the ball in 25th and 63rd minute, soon followed by two goals from the DR Congo international Benik Afobe in the 70th and 84th minute, who was on loan at the club from Arsenal back then.MK Dons were originally the ‘Crazy Gang’ Wimbledon FC, who decided to relocate to Milton Keynes in 2004. A part of the fanbase were against this decision and formed AFC Wimbledon, while Pete Winkelman, the current chairman of the club, decided to buy the club out of liquidation and renamed it to Milton Keynes Dons Football Club. Call it karma, but whatever it is, it works. They hope it continues next Saturday when Desormeaux rides Mischief Clem for Hess in the $250,000 California Cup Derby for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.“He’s a very honest little horse,” said Desormeaux, who has ridden the son of Papa Clem in four of his five career races, winning his debut by 7 ¼ lengths at Del Mar Sept. 1. Last out they finished second by nearly seven lengths to unbeaten runaway winner Acceptance in the King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos.“Usually he only gets beat if he gets outrun,” Desormeaux continued. “I really enjoy riding him.”As to his prosperity with Hess, the three-time Kentucky Derby winner and Hall of Fame member said, “It’s always a confidence-builder knowing I’m going out there to ride for Bob.” Eddie Truman530160%$77,530 Fernando Perez5566311%$225,494 JockeyMts1st2nd3rdWin%Money Won Jeff Bonde1230225%$121,560 KATHLEEN ROSE BACK ON THE HILL IN TURF SPRINTKathleen Rose goes from long to short when she runs in Saturday’s $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint for older fillies and mares at about 6 ½ furlongs. The 5-year-old Good Journey mare led into the stretch last out in the Grade III Robert J. It goes to the winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Not this time.In the closest vote in any category, Juvenile winner Texas Red lost by 15 votes, 126-111, to American Pharoah, who missed the Nov. 1 Juvenile with an 11th-hour injury.Keith Desormeaux, trainer of Texas Red, took the decision philosophically, focusing on the future, starting with the San Vicente Stakes on Feb. 1 when the son of Afleet Alex is scheduled to make his 3-year-old debut.“I didn’t want to say anything (beforehand), but I was pretty confident leading up to the award,” Desormeaux said Monday morning. “I thought it was his, really, so, yeah, it was a little disappointing. I did the right thing. I kept my mouth shut.“It’s disappointing mainly because an award like that is important to a horse’s value. Having the word ‘champion’ attached to your resume means a lot for marketing. That’s what’s most disappointing, but we’ll try to take care of that business this year.”HRTV will re-broadcast Saturday’s 2014 Eclipse Awards show in its entirety on Friday, Jan. 23 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Pacific. It will also re-air from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.FINISH LINES: Big Macher, in his final major prep for Saturday’s $150,000 California Cup Sprint at six furlongs, worked a half-mile under Rafael Bejarano Monday morning in 47.40. “Very happy,” is what trainer Richard Baltas said after the move by the son of Beau Genius following the 9 a.m. break. “He went 11 flat the last eighth.” . . . Firing Line, second by a head to unbeaten Dortmund in the Grade I Los Alamitos Futurity on Dec. 20, is scheduled to make his 3-year-old debut in the Grade II Robert B. Lewis Stakes a 1 1/16 miles on Feb. 7, trainer Simon Callaghan said . . . Trainer Barry Abrams on California Chrome being named Horse of the Year: “He totally deserved it. He’s the only horse that ran from the beginning of the year to the end. I don’t care if he was a two-year-old, a three, or a four. He won a Grade I race in the beginning of the year and a Grade I race at the end of the year. In the history of Thoroughbred horses, not very many did that. He might be the only one.”. . . Through 16 racing days, Bejarano has opened a 21-12 lead over runner-up Kent Desormeaux in the jockeys’ race, while Jerry Hollendorfer holds a 12-11 edge over Peter Miller among trainers . . . Santa Anita races through today, but will be dark this Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Santa Anita will be open for simulcast racing on Thursday, however, with free admission and free parking.
