Bethesda, the publisher that now owns Quake creator id Software, has announced the show lineup for QuakeCon 2011, and it includes a keynote from John Carmack, a playable version of id’s upcoming Rage, and demonstrations of Bethesda-published titles Prey 2 and Skyrim.Carmack, in keeping with tradition of QuakeCons past, will kick off the show with a keynote address with a mind-melting combination of inside details on id’s latest projects and extremely technical discussions of wide-ranging programming topics. There’s always a few gems in these talks that make them worth watching by gamers and developers alike. If Carmack’s talks are a little too high-brow for the assembled throngs of gamers hungry for details, the crowd will then be satisfied by the first public demonstration of the latest Elder Scrolls title, Skyrim, by Bethesda producer Todd Howard. Human Head’s Prey 2 will also be shown off by project lead Chris Rhinehart. What’s more, Quakecon attendees will, as usual, be among the first to play the next id game. Rage will be playable on the show floor, and another demonstration of the title will be given by id design director Matt Hooper. So far we’ve seen some pretty stunning gameplay videos of Rage in action, but it’s not until gamers actually get their hands on the controls that we’ll truly know if it lives up to the hype. When Carmack is involved you really can’t doubt a solid 60fps means exactly that. We just have to hope the gameplay lives up to the id Tech 5 engine. The party – which is free to enter – kicks off on August 4 in Dallas, TX.Read more at Bethesda’s official blog, or hit up quakecon.org to register to attend.
