Graduation ceremonies this weekend at high schools in Clear Lake, Rockford, Belmond

By on August 13, 2020

first_imgCLEAR LAKE — Graduation ceremonies will take place  this weekend in Clear Lake, Rockford and Belmond. In Clear Lake, Superintendent Doug Gee says graduation will take place at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the high school gymnasium.   “We’re doing social distancing, but still pulling that off. A lot of school districts kind of gave up on it, and they said they were going to do virtual and just do what we can, but we never gave up on it. A huge credit to high school principal Chris Murphy and his staff and the parents along the way.” Gee says he was also happy that they were able to have prom at the Surf Ballroom last weekend.  “We were able to pull off prom last weekend. Thanks to the Surf, thanks to a persistent group of parents, and also Mr. Murphy putting that together. Again, one of the few schools that were able to pull that off for our kids so we could still have that special experience for our kids that they deserved.” The Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock school district will hold graduation this afternoon at 4 o’clock at the Rockford Senior High School gymnasium. Principal Nick Johnson says, “We’ve done everything we can to have the traditional ceremony,” Johnson says. “We postponed until June 19th. We kind of have a plan together on what we’re going to do.” Looking at other upcoming graduation dates:= Belmond-Klemme, 2:00 PM this Saturday= Lake Mills, 2:00 PM on Sunday June 28th= Northwood-Kensett, 1:30 on Sunday June 28thlast_img read more

Prep football star to stand trial for assault, faces 10 years

By on August 12, 2020

first_imgIn this photo provided by the Wayne County, Mich., prosecutor’s office is Jayru Campbell, 17, of Detroit. (AP Photo/Wayne County Prosecutor)Felony, misdemeanor assault charges ‘excessive,’ some sayDETROIT — Excessive is how some describe the charges against Cass Technical High School student-athlete Jayru Campbell.Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced at a press conference Feb. 11 the 17-year-old football player will be charged as an adult. Campbell, a junior quarterback, who led his team to back-to-back state championships as a freshman and sophomore in 2011 and 2012, faces a felony charge of assault to do great bodily harm, which carries a maximum 10-year sentence and a misdemeanor of aggravated assault, a one-year prison sentence, for allegedly body slamming a security guard on school premises.“Any defendant would have been charged accordingly,” Worthy said. “Being a talented football player does not change these facts.”A mobile video, titled “Jayru Campbell bodyslam of Cass Tech security guard,” went viral Jan. 22, showing a student at Cass Tech body-slamming a security guard.According to Worthy and earlier news reports of the incident, when asked by the 23-year-old guard to remove his hood inside the building, Campbell refused. In a statement following her announcement, Worthy said Campbell allegedly became “profane, picked the officer up and slammed him on the floor.”A second video and Campbell’s teammate Jamaal Brown tell a different tale. Brown told Fox2 news following the incident that Campbell was protecting himself from the guard. “When somebody puts their hands on you, you got a right to defend yourself,” Brown said.According to another report, the guard “tweeted soon after the incident, ‘Slam me when i’m not looking, lol, pussy. Hit me when i’m looking at you … bet i whoop your ass. I got dropped and got right back up!’ Responding to queries about the incident, the guard also tweeted, ‘Pussy grabbed … up when i wasn’t looking. He then took off when I tried to snatch him up.’”The videos show the guard did not have his back turned when Campbell grabbed him.  The students appear to be yelling at the guard, “Why you gotta instigate?”This paper attempted several times to get information about the guard from DPS and Securitas, the private company that employs him; each attempt was ignored.Emails to DPS about the Campbell incident and security protocol in DPS were also ignored.According to Worthy, the guard sustained facial injuries and an open wound to the head.Jayru Campbell (DPS Photo)Campbell turned himself in to the Detroit Public Schools Police Department prior to being arraigned the morning of Feb. 12 before Magistrate Millicent Sherman who set bail at $5000 with a 10 percent surety.Sherman ordered Campbell not to have contact with the school.Campbell waived his preliminary examination Feb. 24. A March 10 circuit court arraignment is scheduled.Campbell’s attorney Jeff Edison says the teen should not be criminalized. “Our objective is that Mr. Campbell not be criminalized at all,” Edison told the Michigan Citizen.Edison said he doesn’t expect Campbell to receive special treatment.“People are quick to say he’s a celebrity. We’re not making any excuses for him, but we don’t want him to be unnecessarily scrutinized and penalized. It cuts both ways,” he said.Edison, a member of the National Conference of Black Lawyers, added, “there are serious and long-term consequences to the criminalization of youth, particularly in the African American community.”Jayru Campbell’s Attorney Jeffrey Edison talks to the press after his client, Jayru Cambell, was arraigned in district court in Detroit on Wednesday Feb. 12, 2014. in Detroit. Cass Tech quarterback and Michigan State recruit Campbell was arraigned Wednesday morning after being charged with assaulting a school security guard who asked the student to remove a hood he was wearing. (AP Photo/Detroit News, David Coates )“There’s no question that statistically African American youth are over prosecuted and over sentenced and therefore comprise the majority of the prison population simply because of race,” he said. “We’re always concerned — particularly (with) our youth being charged and being sucked into the criminal justice system.” The goal, he says, is that Campbell can move forward and proceed with what’s expected to be a successful future.Edison says whenever there are alternatives to resolving conflicts and dissolving criminal charges “that’s what we certainly should strive for.”Rev. David Bullock of the Change Agent Consortium who in the past worked with youth in Detroit said there needs to be a community conversation about what took place at Cass Tech.“You look at that video and you see two aggressive males. There may be some procedure and protocol questions as it relates to going one-on-one with a student,” he told this reporter. “Even police — when a situation escalates — immediately call for backup. What we saw didn’t look like an adult dealing with a child; it looked like it was (two young people) outside on the street.”More importantly, Bullock says, there’s a culture of the way students are perceived in predominately African American schools. “They’re perceived as threatening and that perception informs how a private security company engages and responds to them. I know for a fact kids at Cranbrook don’t get talked to a certain way.” Bullock says Campbell’s actions have consequences and he must be held accountable. “However, a felony charge seems excessive,” he said. One DPS administrator agrees the charges against Campbell are excessive. “To press felony charges is too much,” says the administrator. “There is a student code of conduct (that deals with student disciplinary actions). In certain incidences you have to consider everything that happened.“My initial reaction is juxtaposed with the killing of McKenzie Cochran (who was killed by three Northland Mall security officers Jan. 23). The attitude of security officers (needs to be addressed). Yes, we have a kid who (should expect consequences for his actions, but) I feel that the charges were too harsh. And that’s a problem in some areas. I see where people want to make a statement, but there’s more information to be gathered.”Campbell committed in August of last year to play for Michigan State University as a freshman in 2015. A spokesperson for the MSU athletic department said she could not comment on a recruit or potential recruit.“It’s NCAA regulation that we are unable to make any comments until they sign a letter of intent,” she told the Michigan Citizen. “For that particular student that wouldn’t be until February 2015.”Special to the NNPA from The Michigan Citizenlast_img read more

Experiment: Take a Darwinist to Church

By on December 19, 2019

first_img“Go to church and breathe easier,” announced an unusual entry on EurekAlert.  A study at Temple University found a positive correlation between religious activity and lung function.  They said that “religious activity is emerging as a potential health promoting factor, especially among the elderly.”  In addition, “going to church provides social contact and emotional support, thereby reducing the isolation that afflicts many elderly and boosting psychological well-being.”    Meanwhile, a group of hard-core atheists, many of them prominent evolutionary scientists, is on a campaign this Christmas season to rid science and society of religion.  Read about their Beyond Belief 2006 conference on Evolution News and Uncommon Descent.  There were no reports of singing at their conference.Do this experiment: invite a hard-core Darwinist to a quality Christmas concert at a good old-fashioned, Bible-believing church in town – you know, the kind that actually believes Jesus was born in Bethlehem as the Son of God, with angels singing and all the rest.  We realize this is somewhat risky to your friend’s health, at least at first.  The shock of seeing such joy may be too much to endure.  He or she will undoubtedly become very conflicted, trying to Darwinize the overwhelming display of artistry, factual content, confident hope and love as manifestations of sexual selection and selfish genes.    A Christmas Concert with instruments, choir, soloists, a short sermon and the involvement of a happy audience with talented and committed Christian musicians carries a message with a wallop that will be hard to explain away.  In only 90 minutes, a Christmas Concert intertwines elements of history, music, light and color, theology, emotion, intellect, reasonable faith and love in ways that a scientific paper and website cannot possibly convey.  It will be hard for your poor Darwinist friend to rationalize the lovely lilting voice of the soprano as glorified ape grunts, or the incomparable blend of rich male voices with female voices in the choir, each with their characteristic sonorities combined with human language expressing intelligent communications, artfully woven into rich aesthetic harmonies, as manifestations of sexual selection.  Then a good preacher can wrap this all around a solid message based on the real events that occurred in Bethlehem and Jerusalem in recorded history (you know, about Herod, Caesar Augustus and the rest of those mythical characters in the Christmas story), showing that this is not just some social ritual a few steps up from the jungle.  Any Darwinist with a piece of soul left will have to ponder, Have I been missing something?O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie,Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.Yet in thy dark streets shineth the Everlasting Light; The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given; And the government shall be upon His shoulder,And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.    The spiritual dimension that makes humans unique in all creation will be displayed in a loving, thought-provoking, uplifting atmosphere where everyone can breathe easier.  Darwinism doesn’t have a song that can compare with such a spectacle.  Music plunges into a soul where argument cannot reach.    You won’t need to say anything afterwards except, “Thank you for joining me!  I’m so glad you could come.  Merry Christmas!”  If your Darwinist friend can manage to endure the initial pain of withdrawal that night alone at home, then he or she, too, might be drawn to take their first, real, invigorating, breath of fresh air.PS: Be sure to follow up with an invitation to the Easter Concert.(Visited 7 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Famous Geneticist Tells NIH that Humans Are Going Extinct

By on

first_imgThe facts of genetics make it clear even to evolutionists: “We are dying” and “More death by selection will not work.”by Salvador CordovaAfter 40 years of work in genetics and 18 years of research specifically into the question of human genetic degeneration, retired Cornell research professor John Sanford was finally invited by sympathetic staff at the world’s leading medical institution, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to present his work.Sanford was once an evolutionist, and few geneticists could boast of (1) having their work involved in feeding starving billions in the 3rd world and (2) having his inventions in the collection of the Smithsonian National Museum of American History. But late in his career, what should have been an instant invitation to speak at the NIH seemed permanently closed. Why? Dr Sanford had become a creationist.Truth Will RiseAt some point, however, the truth cannot be ignored – especially if it is medically relevant to an audience devoted to human health. And if only to state the obvious that the Darwinian “emperor has no clothes” and to finally speak for those whose voice has been suppressed that “we are dying” as a human race – and that “more death by natural selection will not work” as a solution – John Sanford laid out his case for human genetic degeneration in methodical scientific detail. To see the entire lecture “Mutation Accumulation: Is It a Serious Health Threat?” go to this link on YouTube. The night before Sanford’s talk, we were wondering if his talk would be canceled because he was known as a creationist and his talk had creationist-friendly overtones. I heard word that all the NIH Directors were getting involved the day before in a decision to possibly cancel his talk because of complaints by resident Darwinists. It is ironic that a medical institution studying heritable disease would have individuals resistant to a talk by an elite geneticist about heritable diseases! But Providence made possible a presentation that was long overdue.Mutational BurdenThe simple fact is that if all children are more genetically damaged than their parents, “survival of the fittest” cannot reverse genetic deterioration. Darwinists naively think that a large number of children are better genetically than their parents, but never consider the scenario where all or most the children could be worse off than their parents. In such case “survival of the fittest” is really “survival of the best of the worst.”The scenario where children are worse off than their parents has been mathematically examined for years, and it was realized in order for a couple to have at least one kid free of bad mutations (much less having even 1 good mutation), each human female had to bear thousands if not millions of kids!Poor MomAn almost humorous moment was when Sanford quoted evolutionist Dan Graur. Graur argued that if most of the human genome is functional, each human female needed to make 10^35 children to prevent human genomic degeneration (and that’s assuming 99.999% are killed who are mutant)! Graur concluded that therefore the human genome must be about 90% junk. Sanford pointed out, even if the human genome were 90% junk, in such case each female would need to have only 44,000 offspring! In light of human degeneration, quietly, some die-hard evolutionists have been advocating genetically modifying the human genome — as in intelligent design. They see the need for intelligent design to preserve the species, yet they are totally blind to realizing this implies intelligent design was needed to originate the species in the first place!NIH’s Christian LegacySanford indirectly showed we are intelligently designed but also genetically cursed – facts which coincide quite accurately with the Christian faith. What was heartening was to see researchers and medical staff at the NIH giving John a warm welcome. The NIH has hospitals and clinics and deals with death and disease frequently. At the NIH FAES bookstore is the NIH Director’s book, The Language of God, as if to say, in the medical community, thoughts of God are not unwelcome. The NIH also has a chapel where people can pray. Since the NIH is in a city named after the place where Jesus once healed a lame man (Bethesda), the NIH Nobel Laureate Hall has these words on display:Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. 3 In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, 3b waiting for the moving of the waters; 4 for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted. John 5:3-5*When I stumbled on this inscription when going to do reporting work for John Sanford at the NIH a few years back, I had a feeling God would do something special at the NIH one day. And indeed he did!Salvador Cordova has appeared on National TV, radio shows, newspapers, books and magazines for his work in promoting Intelligent Design and Creation Science. He is a former scientist and engineer in the aerospace and defense industry and presently serves as a professor and researcher in the area of Christian apologetics at small Bible College. He has four science degrees and is working on a PhD. For his previous entries on CEH, see his Author Profile. Sanford’s book examines the impact of mutations that are invisible to selection.Read Dr John Sanford’s classic on the history and future of the human genome, Genetic Entropy.*Note: Some manuscripts of the Gospel of John omit vv. 3b-4; some scholars feel they were a later addition. Nevertheless, the authenticity of John’s gospel was reinforced by excavations of the Pool of Bethesda, showing it did indeed have five porticoes. Also, a manuscript fragment from John from a few decades later proves it was not composed in later centuries as some had alleged. Early church fathers unanimously concur that the work was composed by the Apostle John.As one of the inner circle of the disciples of Jesus, John spoke as an eyewitness to the healing miracles of the Lord. In the chapter quoted above, he relates Jesus’ healing of a man who had been an invalid for 34 years. For the NIH, located in Bethesda, Maryland, to quote from the Gospel of John is altogether fitting.(Visited 2,103 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

Economists consider the NDB a viable and necessary alternative to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, one that will bring the focus back to developing the BRICS member nations as well as emerging nations on their respective continents. To achieve this, the bank will support public and private projects through loans, guarantees, equity participation and other financial instruments. This primary focus will complement BRICS’ existing efforts of multilateral and regional financial institutions for global growth and development. The NDB will also co-operate with international organisations and other financial entities, and provide technical assistance for projects to be supported by the bank. The BRICS economies comprise more than 3 billion people – over 40% of the world’s population – and cover more than a quarter of the world’s land area and global gross domestic product.Source: South African Government News Agencylast_img read more
