One of the drivers was trapped and firefighters cut the top of her car to free her. She sustained critical injuries and was flown to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center. Two other drivers suffered minor injuries. The 7:55 a.m. collision occurred at Colima Road and Casino Drive. “Firefighters had to cut her out of the car,” Stage said. A helicopter took Lee to the hospital. She was still in in critical but stable condition, said CHP Sgt. Charlie Sampson. He said the 17-year-old Whittier boy driving the Focus wasn’t injured. The Endeavor’s driver, Clementina Zabayle, 57, of Hacienda Heights, and the Dodge pickup’s driver, Stephen Bibayoff, 46, of Whittier, suffered minor injuries in the crash. Only Zabayle was taken to a Whittier hospital. No one was cited or arrested. Sampson said the cause of the crash hasn’t been determined and the investigation is ongoing. The CHP closed down the southbound lanes of Colima Road at Camino Del Sur and just after Casino Drive. A section of one northbound lane of Colima Road at Casino Drive was also shut down. Drivers heading to Whittier on Colima Road had to find alternate routes. CHP Officer Raquel Stage said the Focus was traveling north on Colima Road when for some unknown reason, the 17-year-old driver veered to the right then to the left, went across the left turn pocket, the median and hit a Mitsubishi Galant heading southbound. “After the Focus hits the Galant, it spins out of control. (The Galant) and the sport utility vehicle collide,” Stage said. The impact sent the SUV, which is the Endeavor, over the side of the road. It hit a wooden picnic table. The out-of-control Focus then struck the Dodge pickup truck which ended up partly on the median. The Galant’s driver, identified as 23-year-old Victoria Lee of Hacienda Heights, was trapped in her smashed car. last_img read more
