Morocco to Take Part in ASEAN Summits in Laos

Vientiane – Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Nasser Bourita, is paying a working visit to Laos to attend the 28th and 29th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summits, which is being held in September 6-8 in Vientiane.During this visit, Morocco, which is the first African and Arab country to join the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) of ASEAN, will sign the instruments of accession to this agreement.On the sidelines of the visit, Bourita met Monday with Laos’ Foreign Minister, Saleumxay Kommasith. After heaviest snowfalls in years in Afghanistan UN agencies prepare for floods

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) are helping the municipality of Kabul, the capital, to clean up the Kabul riverbed to mitigate the impact of high volume as snows melt and to reduce water pollution from the garbage and silt in the bed, mission spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva told a briefing in the city today.Meanwhile, joint assessment teams from UNAMA, the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have gone to Bagdhis province, where early flooding is reported to have forced some families to leave their homes.Joint teams of UN, Government and non-governmental organization (NGO) personnel have been deployed to all districts in Balkh province in the north to make flood-vulnerability assessments.At the national level, a joint operation centre bringing together the UN, the Government, the United-States led coalition forces and the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) with real-time information is being established at UNAMA headquarters.
